Personal Statement

Background:

My teaching/counseling path started when I was 18. I was a hiking and science counselor for an outdoor education program in New Mexico. In my first "real job", I worked on a capital fundraising drive (The Campaign for Yale) for my college alma mater. Next, I was a middle school English teacher and Director of Development for six years at McDonogh School (pk-12) in Maryland. Later in my teaching career, I worked at the University of Portland (UP) as an adjunct professor in the Business School (finance, cross-cultural management, and leadership). Before my stint at UP, I worked in business for 25 years in various industries -- textile manufacturing (2 years), wireless communications distribution (13 years), and investment management (10 years). I have had many years of experience serving on public companies and non-profit boards of directors. Colleagues say I bring "real world" experience to our business students. This is my eighteenth year as a teacher and coach and my ninth year at Lincoln.

This Year:

For the 2024-2025 academic year, I am teaching CTE (Career & Technical Education) classes: IB Business Management - Standard Level (dual credit), IB Business Management- High Level, Inquiry & Leadership (FLI), and Personal Finance & Investment (dual credit). The business dual credit classes are in collaboration with Portland Community College. Over the past eight years, in addition to my current classes, I have taught College & Career Exploration, Creative Writing - Fiction, Urban Exploration, Journalism-Media Studies, Intro to Business, Intro to Personal Finance, Construction Jobsite Management and Intro to Accounting.

Other:

I also serve as a volunteer assistant coach on the Lincoln wrestling team and the Lincoln lacrosse team. I am the faculty advisor for the Lincoln Chapter of National Honor Society, Lincoln Investment Club, and other student-run clubs. My hobbies include hiking, running, cooking, gardening, singing and writing.
