MISSION
By connecting students with their ancestral past through methods that are based in tribal traditions, the Title VI Indian Education program helps students instill a sense of pride and confidence so they can achieve the challenging academic standards we know they are capable of.
TITLE VI GOALS
- Collaborate with schools and departments to create programs and spaces that increase students' sense of belonging
- To assist in increasing the attendance rate for students
- To assist in increasing student achievement, including the high school graduation rate for Project high school students

PROJECT STUDENT ENROLLMENT
Federal funds are based on the number of enrolled American Indian/Alaska Native students in the Title VI Project. Approximately 400 pre K – 12 students of documented American Indian/Alaska Native ancestry are enrolled annually.
ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS & RECRUITMENT
Student must:
- be enrolled in a PPS school or contracted program
- meet federal eligibility requirements (student, parent or grandparent enrolled in a state, federally-recognized, or select terminated Tribe/Band/Nation)
Parent/Guardian must:
- complete a Title VI Student Eligibility Certification form
- email the form to indianeducation@pps.net or mail to 5210 N Kerby Ave., Portland OR 97217

PROJECT SERVICES MAY* INCLUDE:
- Advocacy for Project students
- Back-to-School Picnic
- Basic School Supplies
- Student/Family Fun Nights, Family Math & Science Nights, Family Literacy Nights
- Financial Aid, Scholarship, and College Search workshops
- Honor Day Celebration (graduation recognition)
- Tuition support for credit retrieval at Night School & Summer Scholars
- Cultural Arts & Crafts Classes
- Youth Conferences
- Support for Summer Program Opportunities: Summer ACE, College Horizons, Na-ha-shnee Nursing Institute; American Indian Physician Association, National Native American Youth Initiative; Kona Nika Tillicum, and a variety of other summer camps/programs/internships
- Indian Education Resource Library: books & other media available
*Grant funding fluctuates significantly from year to year, directly impacting the level and scope of services we are able to provide.
