• Pre-Ninth Grade Credit

All comprehensive middle schools and K-8 schools in PPS provide at least one opportunity for pre-ninth grade credit, available in World Language, Dual Language Immersion (DLI), and Algebra 1-2. Our goal is for middle school students who earn these high school credits to be motivated to enroll in more advanced courses during high school, rather than reducing their overall course load.

Please note the following information for the pre-ninth grade credit classes:

    • Students must achieve a grade of C or higher to earn high school credit.

    • Enrollment in Algebra 1-2 courses requires completion of Compacted Math. For more information about Math pathways, please visit the Compacted Math page.

    • Students participating in a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program can earn up to 4 high school credits based on their language proficiency, as demonstrated through the STAMP Test and/or the Credit by Proficiency Process in eighth grade.

    • World Language 3-4 courses in middle grades will be phased out by the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, students may take World Language 1-2 courses in middle school, but World Language 3-4 will no longer be offered at the middle grades level.

    • If the parent or guardian does not want credit to be granted or the grade to be recorded on the student’s high school transcript, they must make a written request by completing a form available at the school where the student received the credit. If the request is made after the student’s eSIS record has been transferred to the high school, the parent/guardian should submit the request to the student’s new high school. This request must be submitted prior to the end of the student’s first semester of high school. For more information on this, please see this PPS administrative directive
