Emily Kinney

A little about me: 

Hi! I’m entering my 16th year of teaching and feel very lucky to be a part of the Woodmere Community. I have taught a variety of grade levels and loved the joys and challenges of each. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a teacher and feel so grateful to be in a profession that I care so much about.

I am originally from Iowa, and lived in Chicago for 8 years before I moved to Portland. My sister and I moved to the PNW together as part of an adventure to “try something new” and we both fell in love with this great place!  I have happily embraced all of the outdoor fun that comes along with living in Portland. I am especially fond of discovering new hikes and more recently started camping. My other passions include cooking/baking, trying new restaurants, running, yoga, reading, and spending time with my friends and family. Last year, I welcomed little Ruben into my family.  He's a Pit/Boxer mix and he's truly a gal's best friend!  We have lots of fun exploring Portland together.

I believe it’s important to constantly grow, learn and change as a teacher and that’s especially true during these times. I am excited to be back in the classroom again this year. It's such a gift to share a new and exciting year with kindergarten students!
